You are not stuck, you just think you are!

Have you ever wondered why it can be so difficult to change a pattern of thought or behaviour that is not serving you in life? If so, you are not alone. Statistics show that the overwhelming majority of people who say they would like to change something significant in their lives never actually do, or if they do they tend to slip back to old habits sooner or later.

The reason for this is that those things they are trying to change are more often than not carried subconsciously (or unconsciously). If they were carried out consciously they would be far easier to control. So how can we change things if we have no control over them? We need a way of communicating with our subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind isn’t mystical or vague; it’s a core part of how the brain works. Modern psychology and neuroscience show that over 95% of what we think, feel, and do happens way below conscious awareness. This is why we need to get to know the subconscious mind and understand how it works. Here are five scientifically backed facts that explain how the subconscious mind works.

  1. Most mental processing happens outside of awareness
Research consistently shows that the brain makes decisions, evaluates threats, and processes emotions before we become consciously aware of them. The thinking mind then explains decisions after they’ve already been made.

  2. The brain is a prediction machine
Your subconscious constantly predicts what’s about to happen based on past experience. This helps you react quickly and efficiently; but it can also reinforce old patterns, even when they’re no longer helpful.

  3. Emotions are faster than logic
Emotional brain structures can respond in milliseconds, while rational analysis takes longer. This is why you can feel anxious, excited, or irritated before you know why.

  4. Habits live in automatic brain circuits
Repeated behaviours are stored in the basal ganglia, allowing actions to run on autopilot. This saves energy, but also explains why habits can feel stubborn and hard to change.

  5. Your subconscious responds to repetition, imagery, and emotion
It learns best through patterns rather than logic alone. Visualisation, tone of voice, and emotional context all shape subconscious learning more powerfully than facts by themselves.

The good news is that hypnosis works directly with the subconscious mind where we can actually rewire patterns that may have taken years to build up. And we can do this much quicker than you may think.

Your subconscious mind cannot always tell the difference between a vividly imagined experience and a real one.
